Sustaining the Swift Legacy

I started volunteering at Camp Swift when my son, Zach, was 2-years old. (For those of you who don't know Zach, he is now old enough to be going off to graduate school) 

Personally, I knew a few people back then, so it wasn’t too overwhelming when I arrived at Camp Swift not knowing what to expect or how I would fit in as a volunteer.  But what happened to me then, and still happens every time I attend a Swift program or event (22 years later),  is what I wish everyone could experience.  

​Volunteering one’s time is just one aspect that helps make our part of the world a better place by showing the youth we serve the potential path to a better life.

As you can see from the pictures above, as the youth we serve grow- Swift is there to help guide them down their path to potential. I  knew then and especially know now that the youth who start their Swift journey as the youngest of campers (ages 7 and 10), would hopefully grow into Swift volunteer counselors as teenagers, and then would eventually blossom into the young adults who are now our fantastic Swift Support Staff. 

Among very few constants in this world, the continued positive influence of Swift has been available to the youth we serve since 1980. ​I am proud to support this legacy.

As a parent, I feel continuing the Swift legacy is something that is our responsibility to our children. More than just volunteering our time or lending our expertise; is there something we may give to sustain Swift's mission to pave the path from present to potential in the youth served?
 
I believe there is. 

I believe it is through the legacy of giving that we have the opportunity to bestow upon our children the responsibility to support the the causes near to our hearts. More than just volunteering our time, or giving of our passion, it is this same legacy of giving that has sustained Swift's positive programming over the last 38 years and will hopefully continue to support Swift's mission far into the future.

Giving is the only way to ensure that the legacy continues.
