What is your professional and personal background?
I first heard about Camp Swift while attending a high school youth group (NFTY) event. My time volunteering at Camp sparked my interest in working with youth. After graduating from Pinnacle High School, I attended Northern Arizona University where I received my B.S in Education and my M.ED in Educational Leadership. Since then, I have developed and managed numerous school programs that focused on the arts and sciences, as well as spent time teaching in many K-8 classrooms. Most of my work has been done in the Flagstaff area, and more recently I spent a year with the Paradise Valley Unified School District.
In my free time I like to volunteer, hike, travel, and hang out with my two Australian Cattle Dogs. On long weekends, I can usually be found camping up north or visiting a new place. My favorite camp activities are tie-dying and canoeing.
How did you first become involved with the Swift Youth Foundation?
I first became involved with the Swift Youth Foundation around 2004 while I was in high school. After my first session as a counselor, I was hooked! I continued to volunteer with the after school programs and Swift Saturdays whenever possible while I was in high school. After high school, I moved to Flagstaff and was able to make time every summer to attend camp. I have been to at least one session of camp every summer since 2004.
Why did you decide to more deeply support Swift and join the Swift staff?
Since I started volunteering with Swift, it has always been a dream of mine to work for the organization. I am a passionate believer in the impact Swift makes on our youth. I decided to officially join the Swift Staff to be able to continue our important work of creating positive mentorship relationships and also help expand our programming to new schools.
What is your favorite Swift program and why?
My favorite Swift program is Camp, of course! I love Camp because of the camper/counselor bonds that are able to form in such a short amount of time. Camp Swift is truly a place where everyone can be themselves.
At Camp Swift, are you Team Grilled Cheese or Team Tomato Soup?
Team grilled cheese!
