Wanna share this amazing experience with your favorite friends? Share the Swift Newsletter with them now! Hi! My name is KJ Williams and I am a current student at Glendale Community College studying Communication and Non Profit Management. I am a Veteran and current service member of the Arizona Army National Guard where I’ve served for the past six years. I have a strong passion for serving minority and underprivileged communities. I discovered my passion for nonprofit work through my many years of volunteering with organizations like Anytown Leadership Program, OneNTen and Women’s Empowerment Breakthrough. My favorite things to do, when I’m not doing homework, are camping, and hanging out with youth! Question: How did you hear about Swift and what stood out to you about us? "I heard about Swift through a past camper of mine. She posted about the work and impact Swift had on her life, and I was intrigued to learn more. What stood out to me about Swift was the wide variety of communities they served. I appreciated the diversity of volunteers, and students benefiting from Swift’s mission. The work I saw Swift doing always left people with a smile and a good time, and what is better than that?" Our motto is "fun is just the start", how have you experienced this in the first few weeks with Swift? "Getting to work with students all over Phoenix is always a good time. Doing activities, games, sports and fostering relationships is the best way for an extrovert like myself to have fun. Leading an activity that not only builds vital life skills, but watching kids smile and laugh through it is the definition of fun. There has not been a moment through my work with Swift where I’m not having fun, and my students aren’t enjoying themselves." Swift's out-of-school programming is a great way to connect with our youth all year, share with us some of the great ways you've connected with our Swift youth. "One quality about myself that I have pride in is humor. I’ve been able to make connections with staff, volunteers and mostly our youth through humor. Wither they say something that makes me laugh or vice versa the connection is made and strong. I always interact and participate in the games at our after school programs, and the youth keep me on my toes. Through that interaction I’m forming connections via play, and teamwork." "The experiences I’ve had with Swift have been exciting, fun and full of life, and it’s only the beginning!" |
