Reflecting on my career, it is clear that my path was not chosen; rather, it chose me. From my early days as a child, my mother instilled in me a sense of helping those who did not have the resources available to them that I had. I wasn't too far removed from the circumstances that they found themselves in just a few years prior to us moving to Las Vegas, These weekends that I dreaded for being taken away from my friends for a few hours every Saturday would serve as the pivotal moment for the foundation being set for my lifelong mission in calling to serve. My resume might list degrees in clinical psychology and applied behavioral analysis, but these credentials merely provided the tools for a mission that my heart had already decided on. I recall countless stories of individuals and families whose lives I’ve touched through organizations that matter, it is not as a testament to my own achievements, but as a reminder of the vast needs that still exist. Through my work, I have sought not just to support but to empower, fostering resilience and hope in those we serve. Away from the office, my life is filled with the simple joys of family moments, my forever loyal therapy dog, the curiosity of a child still learning anything that I can get my hands on so I can stay current, the smell of the pages of a good hard back cover book, and the tranquil solace of nature's trails. These experiences enrich my understanding of community and the profound interconnectedness of our lives, reinforcing my dedication to the mission that has become my life's work. By: Taren Burtucci Welcome back to Kidz Corner, where the kids of Swift tell you what they’re really thinking! In the spirit of March Madness, I talked with our favorite kids about sports and wellness. First, I asked the kids of Swift what their favorite basketball teams were. Surprisingly, most of them did not have a preference. However, there still is a loyal Suns fanbase embedded within Swift! Next, I asked what their favorite sports are. Basketball and soccer are tied for the most popular sport. Tennis, Gymnastics, Track, and Volleyball are also tied, but slightly less popular. I then asked whether they prefer team or individual sports. Overall, most prefer a team sport—because what’s the fun in playing by yourself? I then asked, “Is dance a sport?” This controversial question has divided many, but at Swift, we, for the first time ever in Kidz Corner history, have a unanimous opinion: NO. (Sorry dancers!)
Finally, I asked the kids of Swift what their favorite healthy habits are. Here are some of their answers:
If you would like to keep mentor-based programming available to the kids of Swift, where they can do more activities related to exercise and healthy habits, feel free to donate at https://www.swiftyouth.org/donate.html. Thank you for all of your support! Chloe Fried has always had a passion for helping others. She was born and raised in Chandler, Arizona and she has a passion for swimming, reading, and volunteer work. In 2023, Chloe became a certified lifeguard through the American Red Cross.
Chloe is attending ASU for her Bachelors in International Public Health after finishing her associates degree at the age of 17. Her ultimate goal is to become a Pediatric Neurologist and she is proficient in American Sign Language. Chloe has worked as a volunteer with Swift since June of 2023. She has lead the Primary after school programs all year, volunteered at Swift Saturdays, sorted Keppies, attended Camp Swift as support staff, and she has volunteered with all the events Swift had hosted. Chloe enjoys preparing for events and helping with what she can but her favorite part of Swift is working with kids, especially the primary kids, who teach her just as much as she teaches them. Hello everyone! I'm Courtney Berman, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the amazing team at Swift! Currently, I'm studying Social Work at Arizona State University, driven by my passion for helping young children thrive in life.
Outside of my studies, I love spending time outdoors, whether it's hiking, traveling, or simply enjoying quality moments with my family. Professionally, I've been fortunate to work as a Pre-K teacher at Temple Chai Religious School, which I adore. I've also spent time in Jerusalem, Israel, where I supported children with disabilities for three months—a truly impactful experience. My summers have been filled with enriching experiences as a camp counselor at Camp Stein, nestled in the peaceful pines. This love for camp led me to Swift in 2015, where I've been volunteering passionately for over eight years. I'm deeply committed to Swift's mission, evident through my involvement as a counselor and support staff at Camp Swift. I also took the lead in establishing the Swift Club at my high school, recruiting over 150 volunteers. Even after graduation, I continued to contribute by helping develop programs and facilitating events. I'm genuinely excited to start this new journey with Swift, where I hope to use my skills and experiences to further our goal of empowering youth and promoting positive growth. |
